Pilgrim Locomotive Works was established in December 2000 by Barry Reeves
with the intention of building diesel-electric locomotives for 16mm and G scale
garden railways.
The company was purchased by the present owner David Clark in August 2004. When garden railway people talk of diesel locomotives they have invariably described models of diesel powered locomotives which are in fact powered either by an on board battery or by collecting power through the wheels from the track. Pilgrim Locomotive Works have changed this because we build diesel-electric locomotives which are what they claim to be: model locomotives powered by an internal-combustion engine driving a generator which produces electricity to drive the traction motors. More than 5 years of research and development had to be undertaken before the 1st locomotive, the Pilgrim Pioneer, was able to show how successful and controllable diesel electric power was in this size. This locomotive, with its incredible tractive effort and real super power performance, is the parent of all subsequent locomotives produced by Pilgrim Locomotive Works. Further research was undertaken to develop a much more compact locomotive known as the Pilgrim Tradesman and the Pilgrim Merchant which will be a refined version of the original Pioneer. Please note that the specifications shown here are subject to change and improvement. |
